Becoming a Professional Translator: Qualification, Support Network and Success

For today’s professional translators success doesn’t come easy. In a global marketplace defined by competition, successful translators need to stand head and shoulders above their peers. Dr Daniel Tomozeiu, Senior Lecturer of the Diploma in Translation courses at the University of Westminster, and Karen Stokes, Chair of ºÃÉ«tv Council, suggest that the two key ingredients to professional success are a world-class qualification and a dedicated support network. IoLET's Diploma in Translation qualification and the subsequent benefits of ºÃÉ«tv membership will be discussed in this context using illustrative case-studies.

Translating Europe national workshop: translation tools and technologies

A panel session organised jointlyÌýby the European Commission's Directorate-General for Translation, the Chartered Institute of Linguists and the Institute of Translation and Interpreting. The session is part of the EC's Translating Europe series and follows previous seminars held at the Language Show Live. The main part of the session is devoted to translation tools and technologies, which is the theme of the Translating Europe Forum, the major industry summit taking place in Brussels shortly after the London show. We are also planning to repeat an initiative from 2014: undertaking a joint survey of translation sector professionals and we plan to unveil the results of the survey during this seminar (as we did for the earlier survey in 2014).
